Why I Love Basketball

My fiancee asked me why I write about basketball and nothing else. So I decided to explain it to her, The reason I love basketball so much is because it was the first sporting event my father and I ever attended alone. Before my first basketball game, all the sporting events I've ever been to were with the entire family. We had to have gone to at least 10-15 games before I turned the age of 10, but the problem was it was with everyone my mom and sister would come with and we would always leave before the end of the game because my sister would be bored.

This all changed April 13, 1990 this was the first sporting event I would attend with just my father. It was the Bulls vs Bucks. I hated the Bucks, because they were from Wisconsin and everyone from Illinois is supposed to dislike Wisconsin (I was 8, I didn't know any better, the hatred for Wisconsin comes naturally when you are nine due to the fact that all the males in my family are Bears fans and they spew their hatred towards the Packers, it rubs off on a child.). I hated the Bucks they were my sworn enemy. I was so excited for the game. I remember walking into Chicago Stadium and being in absolute awe of my surroundings, The smells, the sights, the sounds, my dad. I knew this is where I belonged, I found my sport.

Walking up to are seats, I was so excited to see my hero Michael Jordan in person, I was hopefully optimistic that I would get an autograph, I didn't realize at the time that getting an autograph sitting in the 300 level was near impossible, so just to say I never got an autograph. We got to our seats, they were located in the corner I remember I could see the Bulls bench. I don't remember the details of the game, but this is what I remember; the Bulls won, I got to stay to the end of the game, I ate some food, and I got to spend time with my dad alone, it was my first guy night.

The reason I love this game so much and I write about it is because of this moment in time, maybe if this didn't happen I would be writing about baseball, or god help me hockey. Some day I hope to have these moments with my children.

I love this game.
