"The Timberwolves have no immediate plans to retire the No. 21 jersey of Kevin Garnett, the future hall of famer who was traded to the Boston Celtics last week.
"But if somebody asks for that number, I don't think I'm going to give it out," team owner Glen Taylor said. "Kevin was a special guy for our franchise and for Minnesota."”
I think this is the best piece of news I have read the last month about the NBA. With the gambling scandal, this news shows that there are good things happening in the league.
We all know how much Kevin loved Minnesota and that if he had his way he would have been a part of the Timberwolves for life, but the franchise wasn’t winning, and they wouldn’t have been able to build around his contract.
So Glen Taylor made a classy decision that I wish more owners would make, by essentially saying that Kevin Garnett’s number 21 will be retired even though Garnett will most likely not finish his career with the organization.
In the end it’s a shame that Garnett couldn’t be in Minnesota for his entire career because without him, I believe basketball will struggle in Minnesota.
